You can’t have connection without this.

No connection without being present

Connection requires presence – your full and absolute presence. You cannot have connection without this.

Presence occurs when you’re living AND thinking in the moment – right here, right now. Nothing before and nothing after.

Living in the moment means you’re not staring at your phone, folding laundry, or putting the last few dishes away when your teen is trying to talk to you. It means you’re fully attentive with your body, your face, and all of your five senses. You’re focused on your teen and the reality that surrounds you.

Thinking in the moment means you’re not thinking about the past – reliving what’s already happened – or jumping to the future – creating what-ifs and worst-case scenarios. It means you’re not crossing off mental to-dos, planning tomorrow’s meals, or remembering emails you need to send. You’re only thinking about your teen and what’s right before you.

When you’re fully present, you’ve stilled the constant narration that flows through your mind. You’ve quieted the internal chatter so you can truly see your teen and your reality. This allows you to ‘be’ with what is – acknowledging and embracing the facts of life. You’re alert and attentive. No distractions. It’s just you and your teenager.

Without presence, you’re not living life.

Yes, my friend, it’s true.

Life is always lived in the moment and if you’re anywhere but the moment, you’re not living life. You’re living a story.

You want to live life. You want to connect with your teen. Therefore, you must acquire the skill of presence.

Connection always happens in the moment and presence is what allows you to ‘be’ in the moment. Therefore, the two are synonymous. You can’t have one without the other.

Acquiring the skill of presence is challenging. It doesn’t come naturally to humans. Your mind isn’t programmed for it. This is why so few have experienced the frequent, transcendent, and life-changing power of connection. They lack the skill of presence and consequently lack the blessing of connection.

My friend, if you’re one of those who’ve acquired the skill of presence, bravo! I applaud you. Utilize it to its fullest capacity. Create connection with the skill of presence every chance you get. But, if you’re like the many who haven’t acquired it, let me challenge you to make it a priority.  I promise nothing will transform you quite like truly living life in the moment. Just today on a CONNECTeen group coaching call, one of my clients shared that being present had created a dramatic, instant impact on her connection with her teenage son. It was one of the first skills she learned from me and it worked. She was beyond thrilled!

You want to connect with your teen. You need the power of presence. I’ll teach you how to master both in my group coaching program, CONNECTeen. To be alerted when spots become available, simply reply to this email and I’ll ensure you’re the first to know.

Remember, if you’re not present, you’re living a story. Please don’t waste your life living a story. Life is far too amazing for that.

Choose to be present. Choose to live life. Choose to connect.
