Choose to say “YES!”

choose to say yes

How often do you choose to say YES to your teens?

One of my teens recently pointed out how rarely I say yes.

Really? Was this true?

I chose to spend time reflecting on when and why I do or do not say yes.

I’m so glad I did. What I learned was powerful.

My teen was right. 😉

I rarely say yes when there is planning involved, when I think I’m going to need to put forth “a lot” of effort, or when I’m not personally interested in what’s being suggested.

NONE of these were reasons I liked for not saying yes. NONE.

So, I decided I’d start saying yes when I’d usually say no.

My son asked to go geocaching on Sunday evening. I didn’t hesitate. I said, “YES!”

My girls asked if we could get ice cream after an appointment. I said, “YES!”

My daughter asked if she could go to the mall with a friend. I said, “YES!”

These would have all been a “no” before. They required too much driving, too much planning, too much coordinating, and WAY too much temptation. 😉

Again, reasons I do NOT like for telling my children “no”.

Now I’m having SO much fun saying “YES!” and my kids are loving it too.

It doesn’t mean I’m saying yes to everything, but I’m choosing to say YES more often AND it feels AMAZING!

Start saying “YES!” more often. Listen to your teens. They might just be right.
